John Arbuthnot, Scottish physician, satirist, mathematician and polymath (1906). Arbuthnot (1667-1735) was the inventor of the figure of John Bull. In 1702 he successfully treated Queen Anne's husband, Prince George of Denmark, at Epsom after he was taken ill. From the original painting by Charles Jervas, in the collection of the Royal College of Physicians. A print from Queen Anne, by Herbert Paul, Goupil and Co, London, 1906.
