'James', (1566- 1625), 1830. James VI and I (1566- 1625) King of Scotland as James VI from 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from 1603 until his death. He faced difficulties including the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 and conflicts with the English Parliament and sponsored translation of the Bible into English, later be named after him.
