Jacob Degen's flying machine, 1808, (1932). Flying machine built by Jacob Degen, a clockmaker from Vienna, who made his first attempt in his tethered ornithopter in the spring of 1808, aided by a counterweight, and rose to 54 feet. He later added a balloon to his machine and flew several times on November 12 and 15, 1808.
