Hotel D'Alsace, Paris, France, 1914. Irish playwright and author Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) stayed in this hotel between 1898 and 1900. The relationship between Wilde and his younger lover, poet and journalist Lord Alfred Douglas (1870-1945), was the subject of a scandal and court case. Wilde was sent to prison for 'sodomy', and served two years of hard labour. He died in Paris three years after leaving prison. From "Oscar Wilde and Myself" by Lord Alfred Douglas. [London, 1914].
