Honore de Balzac, French novelist, 19th century (1956). Balzac (1799-1850) qualified as a lawyer, but abandoned the legal profession for literature. He was a prolific author of novels and, in particular, short stories, some of which are regarded as being amongst the greatest in the French language. A print from "People, a volume about the origin and early history of many things, common and less common, essential and inessential", by Readers Union, the Grosvenor Press, London, 1956.
