Granville George Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville, British Liberal statesman, (1893). Earl Granville (1815-1891) held various ministerial posts in Liberal governments of the mid to late 19th century. In 1848 as vice-president of the Board of Trade he was prominent in promoting the Great Exhibition of 1851. He is best remembered for his two spells as Foreign Secretary in Gladstone's administrations, holding the post in 1870-1874 and 1880-1885.
