Event during the Crimean war, featuring a display '...designed and arranged by Mr. Peter Hollins, the sculptor; and Mr. George Wallis, the head-master of the Government School of Art...The former contributed a spirited group...representing the British Lion and the Imperial Eagle of France destroying Despotism; and Mr. Wallis a basso relievo and medallions "en grisaille," for the decoration of the pedestal and plinth. The relievo represented Fame crowning Lord Raglan and General Canrobert...Medallions of her Majesty Queen Victoria and Napoleon III., Emperor of the French, decorated the pedestal...The lighting of the whole was effectively managed by means of beacons, which were most appropriately introduced and gave a peculiarly warlike effect to the whole'.
