Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich of Russia, c1880s(?). Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich (1864-1931) was the second son of Grand Duke Nicholas Nicolaievich the Elder and Duchess Alexandra of Oldenburg, and a grandson of Tsar Nicholas I. Peter and his wife, Princess Milica of Montenegro were influential figures at the court of Tsar Nicholas II in the early 20th century and are believed, together with Peter's brother Grand Duke Nicholas Nikolaevich and his wife, to have been responsible for introducing Grigori Rasputin to the tsar and tsarina. After the Russian Revolution Peter and Milica escaped to live in exile in the South of France. From a private collection.
