German motorized troops are greeted on their arrival in Vienna, Austria, 1938. Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler pressured his native Austria into unification (Anschluss) with Germany in the 1930s. After a coup d'etat by the Austrian Nazi Party on 11 March 1938, German troops entered the country the following day. Hitler later made a triumphant visit to Vienna.
