Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871): Battle of Wörth, 6 August 1870, 1870. Prussian troops commanded by Crown Prince Frederick William, and led by General Leonhard Graf von Blumenthal (1810-1900), defeated the French under Marshal MacMahon (1808-1893) near the village of Woerth in Alsace. Cavalry charge by the 8th and 9th Cuirassier Regiments to protect the retreat of MacMahon's army. Engraving.
