'Edward Montagu, Earl of Manchester', 1660s, (early-mid 19th century). Portrait of English nobleman Edward Montagu (1602-1671), second Earl of Manchester. In the English Civil War Montagu fought on the side of Parliament against the Royalists. He opposed the trial of Charles I however, and later actively promoted the restoration of the monarchy.
