Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, English soldier, (1828). In the English Civil War, Montagu (1602-1671) fought on the side of Parliament against the Royalists. He opposed the trial of Charles I however, and later actively promoted the restoration of the monarchy. After a portrait by Peter Lely (1618-1680).
