'David Garrick and Hannah Pritchard in a Scene from The Suspicious Husband', 1752. Garrick, in the character of Ranger, has just realised that the masked woman he had been flirting with is his cousin Clarinda. Ranger, realising his misktake, declares in an aside to the audience, 'I must brazen this out'. The comedy by Dr Benjamin Hoadly was first performed at Covent Garden on 12th February, 1747.
