A conductor's baton used by African-American conductor James DePreist (1936-2013). One of the first African-American conductors on the world stage, DePreist was the director emeritus of conducting and orchestral studies at The Juilliard School and laureate music director of the Oregon Symphony. The baton is made of a narrow wood rod with a small tear-drop shaped handle of cork at the base.
