'Chevalier D'Eon, Who many years passed as a Woman', 1822. Portrait of the secret agent, spy and cross-dresser Charles Geneviève Louis Auguste André Timothée d'Eon de Beaumont (1728-1810), in an elaborate bonnet and wearing a Maltese cross. In this disguise he was known as 'La Chevaliere d' Eon'.
