Cast of soffit panel from an architrave block, late 18th century-early 19th century. Cast of a soffit panel, which is the underside of an architectural structure such as an arch or architrave. The architraves of the porticos of the Forum of Augustus and the Forum of Trajan in Rome both feature soffits of this type. The cast was from the collection of Thomas Lawrence which was sold on 10 May 1830.
