Cast of slab of riders from North frieze of Parthenon (figures 96-99, Slab XXXVI=Michaelis XXXI), 19th century. The Parthenon Frieze, a marble sculpture created to adorn the upper part of the Parthenon's naos, was made between c443 and 437 BCE, most likely under the direction of Phidias. The original slab, (36 Jenkins, 31 Michaelis), remained in Athens on site and has lost the head of rider 98.
