Cast of slab of riders from North frieze of Parthenon (figures 122-124, Slab XLIV =Michaelis XXXIX), 19th century. The cast shows three riders, two of whom wear long-sleeved garments. The original slab, (44 Jenkins, 39 Michaelis) is in the British Museum and was purchased from Lord Elgin in 1816. In 1865, the Museum purchased the head of the central rider; this cast was made before that date. The Royal Academy acquired twenty major casts of the Parthenon frieze between 1817 and 1869. The majority are of slabs of the north frieze and were displayed in the Schools until 2005.
