Cast of slab of riders from North frieze of Parthenon (figures 118-121, Slab XLIII =Michaelis XXXVIII), 19th century. The cast shows portions of four riders (figures 118-121), one of whom is a rank leader. The original slab, (43 Jenkins, 38 Michaelis), is now in the British Museum. It was purchased from Lord Elgin in 1816. Interestingly the cast shows the upper right corner of the panel which is no longer preserved in the original. The Royal Academy acquired twenty major casts of the Parthenon frieze between 1817 and 1869. The majority are of slabs of the north frieze and were displayed in the Schools until 2005.
