Carole Lombard, American actress, 1935-1935. Born Jane Alice Peters, Carole Lombard was one of Hollywood's top comedy stars of the 1930s. Her career was tragically cut short when she was killed in a plane crash in January 1942 while returning to California from a war bond rally in Indiana.
