A joust between two knights, late 15th century. Joust of John de Holand and Regnault de Roye. The jousters are galloping towards each other and almost at the point of contact. Spectators watch from above. Individual knights displayed their military skill in jousting contests, often as part of a tournament including mock battles between teams of knights. From Anciennes et nouvelles chroniques d'Angleterre (also known as Recueil des croniques d'Engleterre).
