Cast of slab of riders from North frieze of Parthenon (figures 110-111, Slab XL =Michaelis XXXV), 19th century. The cast shows portions of three riders (figures 110-112). The original slab, (40 as numbered by Jenkins 1994, 35 as numbered by Michaelis), is now in the British Museum. The larger part of the panel was acquired in part from Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin in 1816. The fragment with a rider's head and a horse's head from the upper right corner had been acquired by Richard Chandler when in Athens in 1765 and had been lent to the Royal Academy with another fragment in March 1784. In 1817 the Royal Academy gave the fragment to the British Museum in the name of the Society of the Dilettanti.
