Still life with a plate of blackberries, acerolas and hazelnuts in a landscape, 1750. Acerolas (or Antilles Cherries) were a common fruit in the 18th century. The hazelnuts appear freshly picked, still with their leafy husks, which curl and swell with natural vitality. The air of realism conferred by the seemingly casual arrangement of the fruits on the ground, as if they had just fallen from the trees, is contradicted by the blackberries on the plate, which are clearly presented to the viewer as if waiting to be eaten at a picnic lunch.
