François de Barbé-Marbois (1745-1837) was a French diplomat and politician, minister under Napoleon I. After having to leave the Court of Auditors in 1834 due to age-related infirmities, he nevertheless sat on the trial of the April insurgents following the Massacre of the Rue Transnonain, where Daumier caricatured him apparently wearing slippers.
