Chasseur d'Afrique, French Army, 1870. Light cavalry corps in the French Army of Africa (Armée d'Afrique). It was created in 1831 by the French regular cavalry posted to Algeria. For most of its history, members of the unit were recruited from either French volunteers or French settlers in North Africa doing their military service.
