Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871): Siege of Strasbourg (15 August-28 September 1870) - The Strasbourg garrison throwing their arms after the capitulation, 1870. On 27 September General Uhrich, commanding the French garrison in the city, began negotiations with the Prussian General August von Werder. The next day Strasbourg surrendered. Here, French soldiers smash their rifles and snap their swords.
