Marina Mercante española, (Spanish Merchant Navy), 1883. The new steamer 'Manuel L. Villaverde', built for the Compañía Trasatlántica at Lobnitz & Co. shipyard in Renfrew (Scotland) and laid down in 1882. It was designed for navigation in the West Indian seas. It covered the commercial line of the Gulf of Mexico. After the war of 1898 it covered the Spanish Guinea line. In 1921 it ran aground and sank during a return journey to Spain, near the Ivory Coast.
