First Carlist War, (1833-1840), Barcelona, Catalonia, 1836, (1845). After the assault on the citadel on 4 January 1836, and the liberal slaughter of Carlist prisoners without any resistance from the authorities, General Alvarez ordered several arrests, including those of Antonio Gironella and Colonel José Montero y Vigodet. On 6 January they were transferred to the frigate "Artemisa", which set sail for the Canary Islands.From "Panorama Español, Crónica contemporánea", Volume III, Madrid, 1845.
