The inhabitants of the city of Santander, siding with the Elizabethan side, fought against and defeated the Carlist troops who were trying to take the city. Civil war that confronted Carlists, supporters of the Infante Carlos María Isidro de Borbón, against the Isabelinos (Elizabethans), defenders of Isabel II and the regent María Cristina de Borbón.
