Trafalgar Square, London, 1950s. View of Nelson's Column from the portico of the National Gallery. The column was designed by William Railton to commemorate Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar (1805). The statue of Nelson (1758-1805) was erected on the column in 1843.
