The Chinese Question - Kiao-Chau, Germany's newly acquired station: view of the bay from the steam-ship "Swatow", 1898. 'Kiaochau [or Kiaochow] Bay - China, looking towards Tsingtan Village. Facsimile of a Sketch by our Special Artist, Mr. Melton Prior. The actual town of Kiao-Chau is some distance inland, but the Germans are now busily engaged on building operations in the village of Tsingtan, on the coast of Kiao-Chou Bay, with the object of enlarging it into a strong naval station'.
