Stothert and Pitt, of Bath, and during the period he was in their employ he constructed the first tangent wheel...[He also] patented the rear-driver, and what is known as the chainless safety, which, after lying dormant for several years, was sold to the Pope Manufacturing Company, U.S.A. Later he patented, among other things, an invention for making cycles without brazing; for a great many years he was with Messrs. Merryweather and Sons, London; and subsequently became chief engineer to Messrs. Humber and Co., Limited, Beeston.
