Swarm of locusts at Delagoa Bay, East Africa, 1895. 'Mr. R. Ottley, of Cabo Submarino, Delagoa Bay, East Africa, writes under date May 20 - "I forward you a photograph of a swarm of locusts which have settled here during the past week and done immense damage to the mealie crops, young plantations of oranges, mangoes, and blue-gums, stripping them of every leaf and breaking down large branches measuring 6 in. in diameter with their weight. The accompanying photograph shows trees covered with locusts and with their branches broken. This flight of locusts is by far the biggest ever seen in these parts, covering the land for miles".'
