The Great Fire in Bermondsey, 1895. 'Late on the night of May 16, a fire broke out in Tyer's Gateway, Bermondsey Street [in London], which ultimately destroyed the buildings occupied by Messrs. Saling, Messrs. Cheverton, Messrs. Dixon, Sons, and Taylor, and Messrs. Margetson. Other premises were injured, and the total damage caused by the fire is estimated to be £200,000.'
