Looking south along the beach at Shanklin along a long line of Admiralty scaffolding (Obstacle Z.1) erected in front of the Esplanade, Isle Of Wight, 1940-1946. Admiralty scaffolding (Obstacle Z.1) was also known as beach scaffolding. It was erected during the Second World War in order to prevent the landing of tanks and boats on the beaches of southern Britain.
