Helen Landale, Mrs Steill of Baldowrie, c1870s. Other Titles(s): Helen Landale, Mrs Stail of Baldourie. The sitter Helen Landale, married the noted historian John Steill of Baldowrie House, Kettins, Blairgowrie, in Perthshire. He died in Edinburgh in 1871, leaving about £4000, subject to the life rent of a woman (possibly his wife Helen) who died in 1877, for the erection of a bronze statue to the memory of Sir William Wallace, for the city of Aberdeen.
