General Sir Peter Lumsden GCB, CSI, DL (1829-1918), 1886. General Sir Peter Lumsden GCB, CSI, DL (1829-1918) was a distinguished Indian Army Officer whose several staff appointments included Chief of Staff. His active service included the North West Frontier campaign of 1852 – 56, the Indian Mutiny 1857 – 8, the Second China War 1860 and the 1865 Bhutan campaign. He was also sent on missions to Afghanistan where in 1879, he became embroiled in political controversy over British and Russian influence in that country.
