Lady Frances Erskine, (1716-76), c1764. Frances Erskine (1716-1776) was the sister of Lord Erskine. Allan's father had come to prominence as the estate manager of the Erskine's Alloa colliery. The family commissioned several portraits from Allan and sponsored his expedition to Rome from 1764-67.
