The Artist at Seventeen Years of Age, 1889. The Aberdeen artist Robert Brough studied at the Royal Scottish Academy where he developed his unique, almost Post Impressionist style; taking inspiration from the French Impressionists and the Glasgow Boys. He also spent time painting in Brittany, Paris and Morocco. This self-portrait is said to be the first portrait Brough ever painted.
