Thomas Faed at his Easel in his Studio, c1863. Faed's studio is depicted in tones and with thinly applied paint that recall the influence of Scott Lauder. Ballantyne includes exquisite still life details including a bird cage, a spinning wheel and some pieces of pottery, all of which appear in Faed's paintings. Of particular interest is the standard lamp with its large reflecting panel which enabled Faed to continue painting after dark.
