Mrs Macdonald, c1873. This portrait of Hope Macdonald was painted by Hugh Cameron, who was a favoured artist of her husband, granite merchant and collector of art, Alexander Macdonald. Mrs Macdonald outlived her husband by sixteen years and during this period she continued to add to his collection of artists' portraits, although Hugh Cameron's portrait was never included.
