Fleming...met the Royal visitors at their landing...All the vessels in the harbour, naval and mercantile, were dressed with flags, and a Royal salute was fired...The Duke and Duchess were conveyed in chairs to the City Hall, through roads and streets decorated with lines of flags on masts, triumphal arches, masses of foliage, mottoes, devices, banners, and shields...an address was presented by the Hon. P. Ryrie, Chairman of the Reception Committee...describing the vast progress of Hong-Kong during the past fifty years, since it was a desolate rocky island with a few poor fishermen dwelling there.
