The Penny Postage Jubilee Celebration at Guildhall [in the City of London]: the Lord Mayor receiving visitors in the Library, 1890. 'The Jubilee of the Penny Post was celebrated by a reception at Guildhall, on May 16, which was attended by the Prince of Wales, the Lord Mayor and civic dignitaries, and about three thousand other guests. In the course of the evening the Postmaster-General (Mr. Raikes) made a few remarks, showing the wonderful development of the postal service, and expressed gratification at having been able to propose a uniform rate of postage to the Colonies'.
