Woman in muddy street, Mopti, Mali, 1990. During the rainy season, the photographer always found that the back of her trousers legs were covered in mud, flicked up by her flip-flops. "The locals - who also wore flip-flops - never had this problem. They explained that it was to do with the particular grip of their toes holding on the flip-flops. I tried to copy them but never got the hang of it, and consequently went around with mud-flecked clothes - a source of great amusement to them".
