St Cosmas and St Damian visiting a sick person and administering aid, 1877. They were two Christian brothers, physicians by profession, from Arabia (3rd century). They practised medicine in Cilicia, Augusta Eufratensis (near Syria), never charging the sick and healing many. They were beheaded by order of Diocletian around the year 300. After a painting by Francesco Peselli, 15th century. From "Vie Militaire et Religieuse au Moyen Age et à l'Epoque de la Renaissance", Paris, 1877.
