First Carlist War, (1833-1840): Battle of Calanda (6 December 1833), 1842. After the occupation of Morella, Colonel Linares decided to attack the Baron of Hervés (Rafael Ram de Víu y Pueyo), who had proclaimed Charles V king on 13 November 1833 in that town. The Carlists, outnumbered by the Liberal troops, were forced to abandon their positions and left in disarray. They were finally captured and Calanda was occupied by Liberal forces on 10 December 1833. From "Panorama Español, Crónica Contemporánea", Madrid, 1842.
