The military contingent led by King Alfonso V the Magnanimous (1396-1458) arrived on the island of Djerba on 15 August 1432. On 1 September, the Aragonese troops were attacked by the Tunisians, provoking a battle between the two sides. The Aragonese were able to take control of the Tunisian camp and the king fled.
