Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871): Armistice ceremony and capitulation of Paris, held on 28 January 1871 at the Palace of Versailles, between Jules Favre (1809-1880) and Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898), 1871. Favre undertook, on behalf of the French government, to hand over Alsace and Lorraine to Germany and to pay war reparations.
