The Luther Celebration: cast of Luther's face, taken after his death when laid in state in St. Mary's Church, Halle, 1883. 'On the road from Eisleben to Wittenberg, the bearers of Luther's [1483-1546] mortal remains are reported to have stopped one night at Halle, where the body was laid in state, in St. Mary's Church. The plaster cast of Luther's face, taken upon that occasion, is still preserved at Halle'. From "Illustrated London News", 1883.
