Balmaseda's flight, First Carlist War (1833-1840), 1842. Civil war that confronted Carlists, supporters of the Infante Carlos María Isidro de Borbón, against the Isabelinos (Elizabethans), defenders of Isabel II and the regent María Cristina de Borbón. At the beginning of December 1833, Colonel Saturnino Albín pursued the Carlist general Juan Manuel de Balmaseda (1801-1846). In the town of Condemios de Arriba he gave a cavalry charge against the Carlist troops, who retreated towards Albendiego. From "Panorama Español, Crónica Contemporánea", Madrid, 1842.
